Inclusion, Diversity & Equity
Our focus is on integrating Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (ID&E) into everything we do at BD, to drive innovation, to better understand patient and customer needs, and to make BD the best possible place for all people to work.
To fulfill our Purpose, inclusion, diversity, and equity are prominent and lived pieces of our culture. We’re intentional about our placement of “inclusion” as the first component of our strategy. We strive to create and nurture a deep sense of belonging for our associates, ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive and realize their potential. We understand that including diverse voices and perspectives when decisions are made fuels innovation for new technologies and better patient outcomes.
Why BD is a Great Place to Work
We are the makers of possible. And we welcome people with the imagination and drive to help us reinvent the future of health. It takes the imagination and passion of everyone at BD, to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities — for people today, tomorrow and beyond. With every new solution, product or development, we’re moving forward. In doing so, we’re creating more opportunities for people from all backgrounds. At BD, you’ll find a place to thrive while doing your part to make the world a better place.
We strive for an inclusive culture that reflects the communities where we live and that we serve, and we continuously nurture an environment where the unique views of our associates are embraced, encouraged and sought after.

Well-being at BD is our holistic approach focused on four pillars – physical, emotional, financial and social. Denise Russell Fleming, CIO, EVP Technology & Global Services, shares how social well-being fosters a sense of belonging and feeling connected to others.

Two of my big priorities are earning a living in a way that makes a difference and having the opportunity to grow.
Akiva Kirschner is surrounded by those working in the healthcare industry. So, it should come as no surprise that he applied to the BD Engineering Development Program after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering.
We want every associate at BD to know they belong, and they have a welcoming place for their ideas. Our Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) are associate-led, company-sponsored, executive-supported groups that serve as catalysts of change through advocacy and allyship and provide a sense of community and acceptance for associates across our organization.
" Our ARGs truly have a seat at the table. Their voices are heard, respected and acted upon at all levels. I am proud of the work our ARGs are doing to drive inclusion and belonging. Their passion and energy are not only contagious but holds us all accountable for doing what’s right and ensuring authenticity and fairness."
—Shana Neal, Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer
